I’m currently on a quest to good skin care. My love for full coverage makeup and this hot summer sun are not compatible and so I need to find a way to make my natural skin glow and looks just great as my face with makeup. Getting into a regime is fun when you have new products to try out. Here’s a wish list of some skin care products that I want to try out and that I’ve heard good things about. I’ve included a variety of products from the Panasonic 3-in-1 Micro-Current Facial Enhancer to some questionable Korean products I’ve never heard of before. If you’ve tried any of the following let me know!
NARS Restorative Night Treatment
Did you know that your body regenerates a lot of new cells overnight while you are sleeping? Beauty sleep is an actual thing! I need to get my hands on a night cream that will turn me into Sleeping Beauty. On my wish list is the NARS Restorative Night Treatment. It is a face oil that has an innovative gel-matrix technology that transforms in texture to deliver moisture on a deeper level. The gel melts into skin and forms a hydrating veil of oil that locks in nourishing moisture while you sleep. When you wake up you will have soft, smooth revitalized skin that reflects light with true luminosity. I always hear good things about NARS so as soon as I have £60 to splurge I will be trying this out.
Panasonic 3-in-1 Micro-Current Facial Enhancer
The Panasonic 3-in-1 Micro-Current Facial Enhancer is a tool designed to deeply cleanse the skin. It has an end which heats up and a brush end to cleanse. The good thing with heat on your skin before you clean it is that it opens up your pores and allows you to get a deeper cleanse. Where science meets beauty, the Facial Enhancer seems like the perfect skin care tool to remove all traces of makeup and impurities. If you have amazing products this tool will maximize the benefits of them and their toning and moisturizing capabilities.
Mizon All In One Snail Repair Cream
Have you ever heard of snail snot as a skincare product? It is a key ingredient in a lot of South Korean products and apparently it does wonders for your skin. The Mizon All In One Snail Repair Cream is made with Snail secretion filtrate. It has skin-regenerative benefits and helps improve the appearance of fine lines, and helps reduce the appearance of acne scarring and blemishes. It is suited for combination skin type and people with oily skin!
IT Cosmetics’ Bye Bye Makeup™ 3-in-1 Makeup Melting Balm
After a long day of makeup wearing, there is nothing more important than your cleansing routine. I love full coverage foundations and so I always need to cleanse properly. The IT Cosmetics’ Bye Bye Makeup™ melting balm is a revolutionary fast-acting cleanser, make-up remover and anti-aging serum all in one! It has been developed with plastic surgeons and is a sulphate-free formula which infuses your skin with deep-cleansing extracts and botanicals to completely remove all traces of impurities without drying or causing irritation. Imagine being able to combine your night time routine into one step? Life-saving, get this in my life!
Kiehls’s Rare Earth Pore Cleansing Masque
I hear a lot about the Kiehl’s product range; from celebrities to Instagram. I came across this Rare Earth masque which helps purify and detoxify your skin while minimizing the appearance of enlarged pores. Flawless skin? I am ready! It is formulated with Amazonian white clay to gently draw out oil, dirt and toxins that can clog pores. Their ingredients are naturally-derived and they’re a brand that’s been around since the 1800s! I’ve got to try this out – everyone loves a face masque.
I’m on a journey to great skin care so I willing to try out anything! From The Panasonic Facial Enhancer to the Mizon Snail Snot! There’s a mix of products here, some pricey and some high-street but I guess it will depend on what works for you.
Have you tried any of these brands before…let me know how you got on? What’s on your skin care wishlist?
So I bought and tried out the Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Foundation…
I have used so many different foundations and I still haven’t found my perfect one. I’m so jealous of those people who have one that they swear by. I have combination skin so some parts of my face are very sensitive and some parts are so robust a bullet probably couldn’t penetrate. When I’m hormonal my skin is very prone to acne but with a good skin care routine I can minimize the flare up. I had been using MAC Studio Fix foundation for about 2 years and I was soooo done. It just wasn’t compatible with my skin anymore and was causing more damage to it. On my search for the perfect foundation I found the Kat Von D Lock-It Tattoo Foundation.
I won a bottle of oil from Mammoth Oils a while back and have been using it for my natural hair. If you have dry hair or hair that is prone to breakage, then using oils in your hair is the best thing that you can do to solve the problems and retain moistures. Natural oils can transform your dull and lifeless hair into luscious, shiny moisturised locks and help in the development and growth of your hair. Different oils can be used for different things; from strengthening to hydrating. Continue reading for my review on Mammoth Oils and how they help me keep my hair moisturised.
What’s in it?
Mammoth Oils is a blend of a combination of oils and does not have any harmful chemicals in it. This is great as I like to use natural products on my hair and skin where possible. A lot of the time chemicals in products don’t stimulate growth or strengthen hair and I’d rather not have chemicals that I can’t even pronounce on my hair or skin. The ingredients are very simple and the natural oils include almond oil, castor oil, argan oil, avocado oil, jojoba oil and olive oil. I have used a lot of these oils by themselves and although they work well, it was nice seeing how much better they work altogether.
In my hair routine…
After I wash my hair, I apply the oil to my hair and I make sure I get from the root down to the ends of the strand. After I braid my hair and let the oil sit in my hair. My hair does not retain moisture at all so I don’t need to wash out the oils, I just let it seep into my hair. After my hair has dried, I can notice the difference in my hair. My curls look healthy and my hair is shiny. Most importantly the ends of my hair don’t look like they are going to break and my hair looks strong and rejuvenated. What I love about the bottle is that it comes with a pump. Since I don’t normally have one, the oil can be really messy. However, the pump makes it easier for me to apply the product to my hair.
Overall, I love this product as it has everything I need in one bottle and it very convenient in terms of the pump.
Do you use any oils in your hair? If you’re interested in checking out Mammoth Oils or have tried them before let me know in the comments or on Twitter.
Hey guys! Welcome back to Afro Mermaid. My little space on the net. I’m going to be talking about some fabulous new £7 Mermaid Makeup Brushes that I got recently – or Unicorn Makeup Brushes, whichever mythical creature you prefer (and yes I said £7). I do a lot of makeup and so of course I go through a lot of makeup brushes. I’m not the best at washing my brushes so I just buy new ones. I’m not rich I just buy them cheaply! So when I came across these gorgeous brushes, I HAD to have them and I vowed to actually look after them because they are actually works of art. At ONLY £7 how could I not.
The brushes have lovely pearlescent, twisted handles in a pastel lavender colour, with white bristles. You get about 9 different brushes for different parts of your face. In a Kabuki style they are perfect for all your buffing needs and applying product to your face.
The Lovely Mermaid Makeup Brushes Include;
- A flat-topped foundation brush – powder and liquid foundations
- A narrow, flat bristled brush for sculpting
- A fluffy head blush brush – for blending powders
- A couple of short, flat bristled brush – for brows, details, eyes, concealer
- A fan brush – so you can have the BEST highlight
- A plush, super-soft powder brush – for setting your base
- A soft, fluffy eyeshadow brush – blend away harsh lines after shadow application
- A short and stubby brush – for packing shadow onto the lid
Look at the sea shells and look at the brush handles. TOTALLY MERMAID VIBES
I never actually use makeup brushes for what they’re supposed to be used for but I guess that’s the beauty of makeup – do what you want! I get the vibe of Mermaid Makeup Brushes rather than Unicorn Makeup Brushes because they remind me of sea shells. The brushes are so lovely to look out and they definitely do not look £7. I love shopping the internet for cheaper alternative because most times, you get good quality for a fraction of the price – as you can see here.
I think they are dupes for some other brushes selling at Beauty Bay – if you’d rather pay £45 feel free haha. The head of the brushes are a pretty rose gold colour and they have been sturdy and strong since I’ve been using them. I like the fact that the brush handles are tapered because it means they are much lighter and fit in a lot of makeup bags – perfect for travelling in style.
My favourite brush would have to be the fan highlighter brush. I look fabulous adding the finishing touches at the end of my makeup with the beautiful brush handles. The brushes work well I will most likely be purchasing them again when the time comes. If you want some of these brushes, check out the LightInTheBox website, eBay, Amazon or pay £45 at Beauty Bay.
What do you think of these mermaid makeup brushes? Do you get a mermaid vibe or a unicorn vibe? Let me know in the comments or on Twitter!
Introduction time! It is May and most of my university stress is over. I can finally start my blog! When I say start I mean start again. I used to be at afromermaid.net but I was a shoddy blogger and I like to think of that as an experiment. Finishing university, I am going to have a lot of time on my hands so this is the perfect time to re-launch. New URL, new theme, new look and new motivation. I am excited. I’ve blogged on different platforms in the past and loved it, so I decided to create my own little space on the internet for just me. I’m even self-hosted now! (WordPress and Bluehost are stress, let’s not even) Welcome to Afro Mermaid.
Let me tell you a bit about myself in case you are new or in case you know me and would like to be reminded. I’m Whitney Abigail and I am about to finish university! Thank the laaaaawd. I studied Philosophy and Sociology, loved it, also happy it’s over. I love horror films and have an obsession with the ocean and mermaids. I’m very happy this mermaid trend is on the rise – mermaid-themed homeware is now acceptable haha. I have no party tricks except I love to talk a lot about nothing so you have that to look forward to if you decide to keep up with my blog.
So what am I going to be writing about? If you know my makeup collection is excessive (I’m not even a makeup artist) and I adore creative beauty looks. So yeah I will be writing BEAUTY posts; my new finds and favourites, makeup for WOC, beauty trends and hopefully some makeup looks of my own. There’s more! I will also be posting LIFESTYLE posts; so anything from what I’m up to, my thoughts on things in general, pop culture and all things LIFE and STYLE (see what I did there). LASTLY, probably what I’m most excited about, I will be writing WELLNESS posts; covering everything to do with self-love, self-care, confidence, positivity and all things good for the mind and soul.
Introduction post done! I think that’s it for now. I’m not good at writing bios. But I’m excited to try and be a consistent blogger (again) and share some of my thoughts. Stay tuned for my up-coming blog posts and things I have in store for myself; I will be posting a new blog post EVERY SATURDAY. Thanks for reading this far if you have and WELCOME TO MY BLOG, AFRO MERMAID say hello.
